Singer began making sewing machines in 1867, Vice President of Singer George Ross McKenzie chose Glasgow to build the machines because of Glasgow’s Ironing Industries.

Isaac Merritt made the first Stitch Sewing Machine in 1850 at a Small Machine Shop in Boston, Massachusetts.

By 1853 the Company was relocated to New York and the trade name of the company was changed to “Singer Manufacturing Company” the first ever Singer Machine was to be sold for 100 Dollars.

Singer also had a 200 ft tall clock tower that was over the central wing, it was the largest four faced clock in the world, all 4 of the faces weighed 5 tons each, by the late 1890s singer was the biggest factory in the world.

Singer was also actually the world’s first international company.
