Scottish Maritime Museum (Denny Tank) to Host Popular ‘Brew & Blether’ Drop in Sessions as Part of ‘Our Stories: Heritage Festival’

Brew & Blether
2.30pm – 4pm Wednesday 6th May – Life around Denny’s Shipyard
2.30pm – 4pm Wednesday 20th May – Stories from the ‘Arkivz’

The Scottish Maritime Museum (Denny Tank) in Dumbarton invites visitors to drop in for two free Brew and Blether sessions this May, as part of the Our Stories: Heritage Festival.

Each informal session will explore a different theme. On Wednesday 6th May, from 2.30pm to 4pm, attendees can chat and discover more about daily life around the former William Denny & Brothers Shipyard which once occupied the site on Castle Street.

On Wednesday 20th May, also from 2.30pm to 4pm, visitors will be able to hear stories and memories preserved in the Denny ‘Arkivz’, a scrapbook of social events kept by shipyard workers.

The Our Stories: Heritage Festival is organised by Clydesider Creative with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Brew and Blether sessions are among more than 40 free events taking place throughout May.

Jennifer Pless, Community Engagement & Development Officer at the Scottish Maritime Museum, explains:

Our free Brew & Blether sessions have been incredibly popular. The people who have shared their stories, memories and anecdotes over the past two years have played an important role in shaping recent exhibitions created in collaboration with members of the Dumbarton community.

“These sessions in May offer a great opportunity for anyone interested in the history of the Wiliam Denny Shipyard, or in Dumbarton more broadly, to come along, explore our collection of historic photographs, letters and, of course, delve into the fascinating ‘Denny Arkivz’ over a cuppa and biscuits.

“Join us to catch up with familiar faces, meet new people and enjoy a blether over a warm brew!”

The Scottish Maritime Museum stands on the historic site of the former William Denny & Brothers Shipyard and is home to the Denny Test Tank, the oldest surviving experiment tank of its kind in the world.

The FREE Brew & Blether sessions take place at the Scottish Maritime Museum (Denny Tank), Castle Street, Dumbarton, from 2.30pm to 4pm on Wednesday 6th and from 2.30pm to 4pm on Wednesday 20th May.

Please note, access to the Museum is via a steep set of stairs.
