School visits typically begin at 10am and finish at 2pm and can include a mixture of guided tours tailored to your topic, time to explore our exhibitions, hands-on workshops and trails and space to have lunch.

GUIDED TOURS 

Shipyard Worker’s Flat,  All levels (30 minutes, dry weather)

It’s wash day in the Edwardian Shipyard Worker’s Flat! Pupils will put on their caps and aprons to experience what daily life was like in a 1920s. tenement Smell the carbolic soap and play with some old toys!

Harbourside Walk, Nursery – P4 (30 minutes)

Grab your binoculars and clipboard and head down Irvine’s historic harbourside. Look across the Bogside Flats SSSI and spot some local wildlife.

MV Kyles, All levels (45 minutes)

Climb aboard the oldest Clydebuilt vessel still afloat in the UK and find out what life was like living and working aboard a ship.

Fitting Shed,  Level 2+ (30 minutes)

See, hear and smell the inner workings of some industrial-sized engines, thinking about the underlying science and technology innovations.

The Rat Trail, Nursery – P3 (30 minutes)

Maths is everywhere, even in museums! Explore patterns, geometry, symmetry and much more in this exciting trail.

Pirate Treasure Hunt, P1-3/P4-7 (30 minutes)

Armed with a compass and a map, hunt around the museum until X marks the spot. What’s going in your treasure chest?
