A school visit to Scottish Maritime Museum costs £4 per pupil, with accompanying adults free of charge.
Let us know what workshop, guided tours and trails you would like to participate in, and we will create a timetable for your day. Learning staff will be happy to tailor your day and make suggestions about choices most suitable for the topic you are learning in school.
Irvine
School visits typically begin at 10am and finish at 2pm and include a mixture of guided tours tailored to your topic, time to explore our exhibitions, hands-on workshops and trails. We also offer half day visits for Early Years classes and Secondary schools.

GUIDED TOURS
Shipyard Worker’s Flat, All levels (30 minutes)
Visit our 1920’s Shipyard Worker’s flat and experience a day in the life of a typical family. Learn about wash day, what food would be for dinner and where the family would sleep. Smell the carbolic soap and play with some old toys!

Harbourside Walk, Nursery – P7 (45 minutes)
Grab your binoculars and clipboard and head down Irvine’s historic harbourside. Look across the Bogside Flats SSSI and spot some local wildlife and take part in an outside art activity.

Fitting Shed, P1-S3 (15 minutes)
Visit our restored fitting shed and find out about steam power, triple expansion engines and the impact they had on world trade.

Museum Tour (30mins)
A tour of the Linthouse building by our knowledgeable Museum staff. Objects chosen will be relevant to your visit and your pupils will have an opportunity to ask questions about our nationally significant collections.

Armed with a compass and a map, hunt around the museum until X marks the spot. What’s going in your treasure chest?
