Come along to the Scottish Maritime Museum to have your say on what heritage and climate actions are important in the local area. We have been working alongside Keep Scotland Beautiful and their Our Heritage, Our Future Programme to develop a community-led Heritage and Climate Action Plan for the Irvine Harbourside area. Come along and find out what is on the action plan already and add your thoughts on what needs to be shared, protected or created.
On each of the three themed days there will be FREE activities to join in with and a chance to find out about other local organisations who are providing opportunities to connect more with nature and heritage.
Wednesday 15th July – Active/Sustainable Travel
Come along to have your say on the Heritage and Climate Action Plan for Irvine Harbourside – this time the focus on what active/sustainable travel opportunities already exist and what would you like to see.
Active Travel will have a stall and are bringing balance bikes which will be available for use outside in the Museum courtyard. They are also offering 30 min guided cycle rides to Gailes and back. These will be running throughout the day when there is enough interest. If you want to join, all you need to do is come along, there will be bikes to borrow too.
Organic Growers of Fairlie are bringing information on foraging “weeds” and information on their amazing community garden. KA Leisure’s Activator Bus will also be available outside.
Wednesday 22nd July – Reuse and Recycle
Come along to have your say on the Heritage and Climate Action Plan for Irvine Harbourside – this time the focus on reuse and recycling and what you think should be prioritised in the local area.
Irvine Share and Repair are bringing their Repair Cafe and will be available to help repair or provide guidance on any small repair jobs you may have. If it fits in a shopping bag feel free to bring it. The Irvine Share and Repair are also going to be running some short “how to fix it” workshops so you can repair items at home.
Workshops will be held at 10:30-11:30am and 1:30-2:30pm with the content led by those interested in coming along. Spaces for these FREE workshops are limited, so booking in advance is recommended. More information on the workshops and booking can be found via Eventbrite here
Irvine Clean Up Crew will also be in attendance with lots of opportunities for volunteering and finding out more about the action being taken to keep Irvine clean and tidy.
Wednesday 5th of August – Heritage
Come along to have your say on the Heritage and Climate Action Plan for Irvine Harbourside – this time the focus on heritage and heritage crafts and what you think should be prioritised in the local area.
Workshops, led by We are Wonder, are available where you can learn to make “cordage” or rope from sustainably foraged plant fibres.
There is a family-focused workshop at 10:30-12:30pm and a second workshop at 1:30-3:30pm which is open to all. Spaces for these FREE workshops are limited, so booking in advance is recommended. More information on the workshops and booking can be found via Eventbrite here
There will be a kids weaving craft available to try and photos from Irvine Harbour available to browse all day.
All of the above will be free to attend. If you wish to visit the Museum, normal admission charges apply with free admission for up to 3 children with every paid adult ticket. More details on the Museum opening times and ticket prices can be found here
