David Livingstone Birthplace Pop Up: Millboy to Victorian Icon

June 29th - August 30th 2019

Take a peek at the exciting refurbishment plans for the David Livingstone Birthplace in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire. Visit the pop-up display that will be in the Boatshop until the end of August.

The David Livingstone Trust’s Millboy to Victorian Icon touring pop-up display will to inform and inspire the public as the museum undergoes refurbishment as part of the Birthplace Project. The Birthplace Project sets out to re-ignite awareness of Livingstone’s story and provide a space for communities to engage in intercultural dialogue through learning about the collection and the legacy that connects Scotland and Southern Africa to this day.

With fun activities for everyone to take part in, the David Livingstone Birthplace Project pop-up gives a wee glimpse into the exciting story of the famous Scottish Victorian explorer. From his humble beginnings in a cotton mill on the river Clyde to his efforts to abolish the East African slave trade, Dr Livingstone was an inspiring figure, advocating for human rights and developing international friendships that are still strong today.

There is no admission charge to the Boatshop, in the same building as Puffers Cafe, to visit this free exhibition.
