Join Woven Waves: The Jutland Tapestries artist Katie Russell for an enjoyable hands-on tapestry weaving workshop.
As part of the Woven Waves: The Jutland Tapestries events programme, Katie Russell will join us at the Scottish Maritime Museum, Irvine to lead a day workshop based around her latest solo exhibition. You will be introduced to the different types of tapestry weaving and be able to explore the variety of wool and other materials that this ancient craft can utilise. At the end of the workshop you will have created your own piece of tapestry art! Hand looms and materials are provided but if you have your own hand loom feel free to bring it along. This workshop is suitable for those 16 years old and over.
The museum is open from 10am – 5pm, giving you an opportunity to explore the Woven Waves: The Jutland Tapestries exhibition before or after the workshop begins.
11.15am – 11.30am: Introduction to Katie Russell and Woven Waves: The Jutland Tapestries exhibition
11.30am – 12.30pm: Workshop begins
12.30pm – 1.15pm: LUNCH (bring a packed lunch or visit Puffers Café in The Boatshop)
1.15pm – 3.15pm: Workshop continues (inc. comfort break)
3.15pm – 4pm: Sharing the weaves you have made with the group
