World Ocean Day

Where

Irvine Beach & the Linthouse Building Scottish Maritime Museum

When

The Scottish Maritime Museum is teaming up with Irvine Clean Up Crew to celebrate World Ocean Day on Saturday the 8th of June. Why not join us for an exploration of practical and creative ways to take action to help protect our planet’s oceans?

You can join Irvine Clean Up Crew in the morning for a beach clean at Irvine Beach where you’ll be able to help make sure any litter is saved from ending up in the sea. There will also be chance to see the most common types of litter found along this stretch of coastline and you can even make a pledge of one action you will take to help keep our waters free from litter. Everyone is welcome to join in from 10-11:30am. The beach clean is free to attend and Irvine Clean Up Crew have plenty of equipment available to borrow for both children and adults. If you have Facebook, you can let them know you are coming at this link, otherwise you are welcome to just come along. We’ll be meeting at the picnic area behind the beach pavilion at the bottom of Beach drive.

In the afternoon, from 1-4pm, there will be a drop-in session at the Scottish Maritime Museum, where you will have an opportunity to create posters with messages about protecting our oceans. There will be a variety of craft & art materials available, including some of the cleaned litter from the morning’s beach clean. We’ll provide some ideas for inspiration and you can let your creativity flow. There is no need to pre-book for this drop-in session. At busy times you may be asked to explore the Museum and come back a little later. Adults attending the beach clean in the morning will receive a token giving them entry to the Museum at a reduced rate of £4. Up to three children get free entry with each paying adult/concession.

Let’s celebrate World Ocean Day together!
