Polish male choir Zawisza Czarny from Gdynia. It is most likely the largest, regularly performing sea shanty choir in the world. The choir is made of the ship’s crew Zawisza Czarny, which is the flag ship of the Polish Scouting Association, and it is going to berth in Clyde Marina, Ardrossan from 31st July to 1st August 2023.

The crew of the Zawisza Czarny has been in operation since 2012. Consisting of 50 men aged between 18 and 70, it is the only sea shanty choir in Poland and is recognized as one of the world’s finest in its category. The choir’s mission is to promote maritime traditions through singing, music, and stage performances. All choir members have some connection to working at sea, sailing, or marine science. As a floating choir, once a year, the choir members embark on a cruise as the crew of the sailing ship Zawisza Czarny to perform concerts in ports and celebrate their home port of Gdynia under the Polish flag.

The choir has a captain, officers, boatswains, and cooks, making it self-sufficient as a sailing ship crew. The choir members’ connections to the music are not accidental, as many of them are singers of Gdynia shanty and folk bands, cultural event animators, scouting instructors, and descendants of Gdynia’s naval orchestra bandmaster. The choir’s founder and director, Jacek Jakubowski, is a Gdynia native and a graduate of the Faculty of Arts at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. With such a diverse and talented group of individuals, the choir’s performances are both exciting and authentic.

Make an evening of it and come along early to enjoy some Caribbean cuisine. Picking up a hot takeaway if you are attending the event or not and their frozen dishes will be available too! (you do not need to be a ticket holder to buy a meal from Reggarlicious😄)

You can also sit it the museum rception if you have tickets or use the seats outside to enjoy your meal. Full evening menu, their 1 pot portions, RFC & reggae wraps will be available 🍗🍛😋🍽
