Here is another chance to meet Betsy Miller, the trailblazing first female ship’s captain from Saltcoats, and step into the 1900s with Aggie MacIntosh in a preserved tenement home.
Starting in the Scottish Maritime Museum, Linthouse Building, the tour commences at 11.00pm and includes:
- Welcome non-alcoloic drink and vittels.
- Tour of the Scottish Maritime Museum and an introduction to some of the exhibits in the vast collection.
- Introduction to Betsy Miller, first registered female ships captain who hailed from Saltcoats.
- Short walk to the ship workers tenement rooms and a look into the lifestyle of a 1900’s family hosted by Aggie MacIntosh.
- Visit to the Museum Boatshop, site of the original boat yard at Irvine Harbour. An opportunity to sample Scottish produced Rum at the Captain’s reserved table at the Scottish Maritime Museum (18s & over, only) Alternative non alcoholic cordial will be available for young seafarers and designated drivers.
Why not make a day of your visit and explore the beach park, pubs, restaurants, cafes & coffee houses along the harbouside or visit the Harbour Arts Centre and the artists studio courtyard behind the Ship Inn.
You will have access to the Scottish Maritime Museum, (this includes the current exhibition in the Museum) until closing time at 5pm.
