Happy Halloween! We’ll be raising money for the Scottish Maritime Museum Trust and Whiteleys Retreat!
Join us for a fun day of spooky goings on the Scottish Maritime Museum, Irvine. This family friendly event is the perfect day out for the kids, suitable for 5 – 12 year olds. There will be activities, demonstrations and workshops. We’ll be raising money for the Scottish Maritime Museum Trust, to fund the work we do preserving the collection and for the incredible work of Whiteleys Retreat. Based in South Ayrshire, Whiteleys Retreat is a small independent charity providing therapeutic respite breaks and extended support for children, young people and their families with cancer and life altering illness in the UK.
Glass Pumpkins Glass Blowing Demonstrations
Drop In Session: 11am – 4pm
Scientific Glassblower Robert McLeod will be giving live demonstrations as he makes handblown Halloween Pumpkins! The expert glassblower will create the unique decorations with withering leaves, spooky faces and ghastly grins! Robert is chair of the British Society of Scientific Glassblowers and he will tell the visitors about how glass is an amazing material and how fun it is to work with!
Buy a Glass Pumpkin for Charity
The glass pumpkins will be on sale in the Museum Shop. 100% of this donation will go to charity. Fifty percent of the proceeds go keeping the Scottish Maritime Museum running and the other Fifty percent will go to Ayrshire based children’s charity Whiteleys Retreat. Whiteleys Retreat provide short breaks for children, young people and their families with cancer and life altering illnesses.

All Day, Collect at the Museum Reception
There are monsters hiding all over the Museum! Can you find them all? Take a walk around the Linthouse like a real ghost hunter and ticket them of your Museum Monster Trail sheet. if you find them all your get a certificate!
Creeeeepy Crafts! Make and Take
Book your session on the day at the Museum Reception: 10.30 am – 4pm
Join us in the Education Room make your own puppet with moving limbs! From mummy’s and zombie to witches and pirates – you can make anything you want and take it home to put up in your window or play with. All materials provided. This session is included with the price of you museum ticket.
Halloween Costume Competition!
Make sure you come to the Museum in your scariest or silliest costume! We’ll be giving out a prize for the most amazing costume of the day!
