The Museum is pleased to invite you along to a special ‘Dream Destinations’ exhibition viewing and an evening talk given by Lawrie Sinclair the highly respected and esteemed chair of the Scottish Maritime Museum Board of Trustees. Mr. Sinclair will be sharing fascinating insights and anecdotes about the illustrious maritime career of his grandfather, the renowned William Lawrie Sinclair.
William was born in Stevenston, educated at Irvine Royal Academy and went to sea in sailing ships in 1909, rounding Cape Horn on several occasions. During World War 1 served on Submarines and after the war joined the Anchor Line of Glasgow, rising from 3rd Mate to Master and Marine Superintendent. Joined the London Midland Scottish Railway in 1934 as Marine Superintendent at Holyhead, posted to London in 1937 as Chief Marine Superintendent and retired in 1952, where he returned to back to Ayrshire and settled in Saltcoats.
A glass of wine or beer on arrival is included in the event ticket.
