The Secret of Success: Opening Celebration / Секрет успіху: святкування відкриття

We are pleased to announce that the community exhibition “The Secret of Success” will be on display in the Scottish Maritime Museum from the 4th – 31st of October 2024. Please join us on the 3rd of October for an opening celebration, the details of which are below.

Ми раді повідомити, що громадська виставка «Секрет успіху» буде експонуватися в Шотландському морському музеї з 3 по 31 жовтня 2024 року.

Created by members of the North Ayrshire Ukrainian Community, this exhibition explores adventure and the hunt for understanding despite multicultural differences in communities and characters they encounter along the way. Using the works of Jules Verne that were heavily influenced by his visits to Scotland as inspiration, the exhibition uses printed artwork to illustrate their adventure from Glasgow to Odesa. Do the intrepid adventurers find their Secret of Success? You will need to come and see the exhibition to find out.

Створена членами української громади Північного Ейрширу, ця виставка досліджує пригоди та полювання за порозумінням, незважаючи на мультикультурні відмінності в громадах і персонажів, з якими вони стикаються на своєму шляху. Використовуючи роботи Жуля Верна, на які надихнув його візит до Шотландії, виставка використовує друковані твори мистецтва, щоб проілюструвати їхню пригоду з Глазго до Одеси. Чи знаходять відважні шукачі пригод свій секрет успіху? Щоб дізнатися про це, потрібно прийти на виставку.

To celebrate the opening of this exhibition, please join us at the Scottish Maritime Museum on the 3rd of October at 6pm for snacks and refreshments and for a talk “Legends of the Sea” by one of the exhibition contributors, Yevgen Koziy. Solo Way Ukrainian Choir will also be joining the celebration to perform some traditional Ukrainian folk music and this will be followed by an opportunity to experience the community exhibition within the Museum.

Щоб відсвяткувати відкриття цієї виставки, будь ласка, приєднайтеся до нас у Шотландському морському музеї 3 жовтня о 18:00 на перекуси та прохолодні напої та на розмову «Легенди моря» від одного з авторів виставки, Євгена Козія. Український хор Solo Way також приєднається до свята, щоб виконати традиційну українську народну музику, а після цього буде можливість ознайомитися з громадською виставкою в музеї.

Yevgen’s talk will take you on an journey through authors influential in Ukrainian culture who also have links to Scotland, and a fascination with tales of the sea.  He will also explore a celebration of historical maritime craftmanship in both the UK and Ukraine. Come along and learn about authors such as Jules Verne, Robert Lewis Stevenson and local Bard Robert Burns, the importance of Vikings in myths and legends in Ukraine and the influence of shipbuilding in Scotland (and the UK) on the shipbuilding industry in Ukraine. The talk will be delivered in English, but slide notes will be available in Ukrainian for anyone who needs them.

Розповідь Євгена перенесе вас у подорож серед авторів, впливових на українську культуру, які також пов’язані з Шотландією та захоплюються казками про море. Він також дослідить святкування історичної морської майстерності як у Великобританії, так і в Україні. Приходьте й дізнайтеся про таких авторів, як Жуль Верн, Роберт Льюїс Стівенсон і місцевий бард Роберт Бернс, про важливість вікінгів у міфах і легендах в Україні та про вплив суднобудування в Шотландії (і Великобританії) на суднобудівну галузь в Україні. Доповідь буде виголошена англійською мовою, але слайди будуть доступні українською для всіх, хто їх потребуватиме.

Solo Way Ukrainian Choir was created by displaced people from Ukraine in 2022. We are delighted to have them join us to perform some traditional Ukrainian music. If you would like to find out more about the choir they have a Facebook page here.
