Families can enjoy a packed programme of creative activities at the Scottish Maritime Museum on Irvine Harbourside this August.

From hands-on crafts and a new Museum trail to family activities celebrating the new travelling exhibition Bound by the Sea, there’s plenty to keep the children entertained throughout the month.

From now until Sunday 23 August, children can take part in free, drop in ‘Make and Take’ craft sessions.

From today (Monday 10) until Sunday 16 August, young visitors can transform a simple wooden figure into a quirky character using a variety of craft materials – perhaps a daring ship’s captain, a favourite book hero or a creation of their own imagination.

From Monday 17 to Sunday 23 August, they can create colourful decorative pebbles to take home.

Families can also enjoy the self-led Summer Beach Logbook Trail exploring the Museum to discover hidden sandcastles before unscrambling the letters to solve the seaside-themed puzzle.

The Museum will also bring maritime adventures to Irvine Library with a free family session on Thursday (13 August).

During the interactive session inspired by the Museum’s new travelling exhibition Bound by the Sea, families can discover the fascinating world of maritime communication, learn how to navigate using charts and hear thrilling sea stories drawn from the rich maritime heritage of North Ayrshire’s ‘Three Towns’ and their historic connection to the Merchant Navy.

Up to three kids go FREE at the Scottish Maritime Museum with every paying Adult or Concession ticket.  The sessions at Irvine Library are free.
