Scanning the Horizon: 3D Digitisation Project Officer

Temporary 18 month full-time contract

Salary: £20,500

Location: Irvine

The Scottish Maritime Museum is looking to recruit a full-time 3D Digitisation Project Officer for eighteen months to manage the ‘Scanning the Horizon’ project. Working with key personal, the project officer will fulfil the aims and objectives of this Museums and Galleries Scotland funded position.

This project allows the Scottish Maritime Museum to work towards increasing its general visitors, schools and virtual web visitors by digitally recording and displaying a selection of its Recognised Collections. We will work with Museums from the Industrial Museums Scotland Partnership, other selected Museums and with local community groups, schools and colleges to develop new innovative ways to co-curate virtual exhibitions.  The post holder will develop creative and innovative ways of utilising the digital data and be expected to develop a training programme for staff and volunteers.

The role is supported by Museum Galleries Scotland, Museum Development Grant.

You will have an organised and methodical approach to yo nur work, with an eye for detail. You will also have the ability to prioritise tasks, work independently, and to use your own initiative. Essential to this role is that you must be able to multi-task and work in a demanding environment and have strong interpersonal skills.

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications/Training:

  • Graduate in a relevant discipline, ideally with a postgraduate qualification, or equivalent workplace experience in museum/heritage or voluntary work.
  • Experience of developing and delivering creative exhibitions in a professional capacity.
  • Experience of working with collections management databases.
  • Excellent IT skills, including experience developing online content and managing websites.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willing to participate in further training and development.
  • Experience in audience evaluation.
