Boiler from the puffer “VIC 32”
A steam vertical crosstube marine boiler removed from the Puffer VIC 32 during a refurbishment. This boiler was built by Cochran & Co of Annan in 1942-43. All fitting such as gauges, dials and pipes have been removed and been used on the replacement boiler fitted in the puffer. Boilers do not last forever and periodically need replacing. VIC 32 is unusual as it was never converted to from steam to diesel, which was cheaper and more efficient. This boiler took up a lot of space in addition to the steam engine – converting diesel allowed more space for cargo.
