Benno Schotz “Figure of a Shipbuilder” c1949
Benno Schotz (1891-1984) was ann Estonian-Scottish sculptor and one of twentieth-century Scotland’s leading artists.
Sculpted from experience at John Brown’s shipyard in Clydebank, Schotz’s ‘knightly’ shipbuilder made of Cement fondue stands strong, his protective clothing resembling tough riveted steel ship plates.
Schotz later became Her Majesty’s Sculptor in Ordinary for Scotland.
