In
the historic Linthouse Engine Shop you can explore a substantial part
of the collection, including small vessels, machine tools, engines and
other items, currently displayed as an 'open store'. The Museum Boatshop
is situated on Irvine's harbourside, where you will find exhibitions,
maritime artwork, ship models and the museum shop. Guided tours start
here throughout the day.
On a tour you will visit the Shipyard Workers Tenement Flat (a chance
to see a 'room and kitchen' restored to its pre 1920's appearance). The
puffer 'Spartan' is currently under restoration on the museum slipway.
The Museum shop, stocks a wide selection of general and maritime souvenirs,
books and videos.
Puffer's Coffee Shop on the wharf is open all year, for coffee, lunches
and delicious cakes. Irvine Harbour was once one of Glasgow's main trading
ports. Now the Harbourside offers many attractions for visitors, from
the many facilities of the Magnum Leisure Centre to bird watching on the
river estuary. The Beach offers fine walks and rides with magnificent
views of the Firth of Clyde.
