“She must be a top flight cruise ship...with a concept in advance of any existing ship.”

Thousands of people lined the banks of the river Clyde to watch the launch of RMS Queen Elizabeth 2 from the shipyard of John Brown & Co. on the 20th September 1967.

QE2 was built for the world famous Cunard shipping line, and followed in the footsteps of their renowned ships Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. QE2 is Cunard’s longest serving ship, and has served as a
cruise ship, a transatlantic liner, and a troop carrier.

However, after almost 40 years service, QE2 will be retired in November 2008, and like Queen Mary before her, she is set to become a floating hotel. Her new home is at Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, where she will continue to enthral ‘passengers’ with her elegant lines and luxury.

Join us on a fulfilling journey as we explore the construction, life and retirement of QE2.
